DEMOCRACY DAY: A CELEBRATION OF FREEDOM, UNITY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE


As Nigeria commemorates Democracy Day, I, Hon. Eunice Oluwawemimo Olukomogbon, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kogi State on Community Peace Building, join millions of Nigerians in celebrating the resilience of our democracy and the enduring spirit of our people.

Democracy Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our heroes and heroines who fought tirelessly to ensure that the voices of citizens remain the cornerstone of governance. It is a day to reflect on our collective journey, appreciate the progress we have made, and renew our commitment to the principles of justice, equity, peace, and development.

In Kogi State, under the purposeful leadership of Ahmed Usman Ododo, efforts continue to be geared towards fostering inclusive governance, strengthening peace among communities, and creating opportunities for sustainable growth. These achievements are only possible in a democratic environment where citizens actively participate in shaping the future of their society.

As a peace-building advocate, I recognize that democracy thrives best where peace, unity, and mutual understanding exist. Therefore, I urge all citizens, especially the youth, to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and civic responsibility as we work together to build stronger and more prosperous communities.

KOSEMA, NEMA ENGAGE STAKEHOLDERS ON 2026 FLOOD PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE IN KOGI STATE

The Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA), in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has convened a stakeholders' engagement on flood preparedness and response as part of efforts to strengthen disaster risk management ahead of the 2026 flood seasonal climate prediction by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and the Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), which identified Kogi State as high risk and prone to flooding.  The engagement, held under the theme "Strengthening Local Emergency Management Committees for a Resilient Disaster Management in Kogi State," brought together critical stakeholders, including Kogi State Government officials, traditional rulers, Local Government officials, security agencies, humanitarian organizations, development partners, community leaders, relevant ministries, departments, and agencies, and other critical actors in disaster manageme...
